Commercial Bank Toastmasters Club Celebrates its Success

21 January 2019

Doha, Qatar: The Commercial Bank Toastmasters Club kicked off its 11th meeting under the theme of “celebration”. The club executive committee and club members celebrated their success in 2018 and celebrated a new start in 2019 in the presence of the Bank’s Group CEO, Joseph Abraham, Sheikh Jassim Al Thani, Chief Human Capital Officer and Hussain Al Abdulla, EGM Chief Marketing Officer.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. There are currently more than 60 Toastmasters Clubs in Qatar and Commercial Bank Toastmasters Club is the first corporate club in the banking sector in Qatar.

The meeting followed the standard Toastmasters Club session format, with attendees giving speeches followed by feedback from the club members. At the end of the session, there was a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the success of the club.

Joseph Abraham, Group CEO at Commercial Bank, said: “Toastmasters is great initiative as it provides a positive environment to help people communicate clearly and concisely. The public speaking skills that Toastmasters helps to develop have application not just in a business environment but throughout our personal lives too. I was very impressed by the speakers participating at the meeting and the organisation of the club and hope that more of our staff will get involved in the future.”

Sheikh Jassim Al Thani, Human Capital Officer at Commercial Bank, said: “It was a pleasure to attend the Commercial Bank Toastmasters Club first meeting in 2019. I was delighted to see so many of our employees taking part in the initiative, which is a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their public speaking and leadership skills. I hope that more people at the Bank will join the club this year and I look forward to attending more sessions myself.”

The Commercial Bank Toastmasters Club is just one of the ways that the Bank is investing in the professional development of its employees. It has many other initiatives in place for 2019, including the rollout of the Leader-Led training and a range of health and wellbeing activities.
