Frequently Asked Questions

Samsung Wallet is a digital wallet and payment platform from Samsung which allows you to make secure in-store (contactless purchases) with selected Samsung Galaxy phones and wearables, in-app and e-Commerce purchases anywhere Samsung Wallet is accepted using your CB Debit and Credit cards.

Selected Samsung Galaxy devices are equipped with Near Field communication technology (NFC). This technology enables devices in close proximity to communicate and transmit tokenized payment card information from your phone to a contactless payment terminal without sending your actual card information and without any direct physical contact. In addition to NFC, Samsung Wallet supports a new proprietary technology, Magnetic Secured Transmission (MST) which transmits the same secure tokenized credit card / debit card payment credentials.

When using Samsung Wallet for In-App / e- Commerce purchases, uses “Tokenization” technology to hide all details of your card from being shared with the merchant online, only a one-time encrypted token will be used to authorize your transaction online.

Tokenization is a method of protecting payment card information by substituting the card's number with a unique alphanumeric identifier, generated using proprietary algorithms. The unique identifier, or token, is then used for sending the transaction to the card's payment network, where it is decrypted and the transaction is authorized. The actual card number is stored in a secure vault (with the payment processor or bank), and does not reside on the merchant's or Samsung's systems.

Tokenization is being used to reduce security risks inherent in the collection and transfer of highly sensitive data between merchants and the card's payment network. Tokenized data is not mathematically reversible, and is useless unless you have the original key used to create the token, limiting the chance of your payment information being stolen or compromised.

The transaction is seamless and requires no changes on the part of the merchant or consumer.

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range wireless technology that allows two devices to exchange payment information quickly and conveniently at close proximity without any physical contact. Samsung Wallet uses NFC technology or MST to transmit payment information from your phone to the contactless payment terminal by simply waving the NFC enabled device on contactless terminals.

Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) replicates swiping a physical card at the payment terminal by securely sending payment information directly to the magnetic strip card reader without touching it. Samsung Wallet uses NFC technology or MST to transmit payment information from your phone to the contactless payment terminal.

Samsung Wallet protects your payment info with multiple layers of security, using one of the world's most advanced security infrastructures to help keep your information safe. When you use your phone to pay in stores, Samsung Wallet doesn't send your actual credit or debit card number with your payment. Instead, a virtual account number is used to represent your information - so your card details stay safe.

Samsung Wallet is available with the Galaxy Note8, S8, S7, S7 edge, S6, S6 active, S6 edge+, S6 edge, Note5, Gear S2 (with NFC only) and Gear S3 through an app update.
