Commercial Bank and QCS educate about Breast Cancer

18 October 2018
Doha, Qatar: To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Commercial Bank has organized an awareness day in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society by launching a range of awareness-raising activities yesterday for its employees and members of the public.
Commercial Bank offered its guests the opportunity to get their vital signs checked by qualified nurses and receive a general consultation from a medical doctor. They were also invited to hear inspirational talks from a breast cancer survivor and a blood cancer survivor, as well as attend a workshop run by Dr. Hadi Abu Rasheed, Head of Professional Development and Scientific Research Department at Qatar Cancer Society (QCS).
Activities that focused on fitness and lifestyle were also offered. Because studies have shown that women who exercise more are less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer, an office work out was organised at Commercial Bank’s very own on-site gym for employees, CB House of Fitness, followed by a presentation on why ‘Every Movement Counts’.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.
According to National Center for Cancer Care & Research, in Qatar the incidence of breast cancer is 40% higher than that of other types of cancer. This makes it one of the most common cancers among women in Qatar.
Mr. Hussein Ali Al Abdulla, Chief Marketing Officer at Commercial Bank, said: “Commercial Bank was glad to play its part in helping raise awareness of breast cancer in Qatar. Prevention and early detection are the most powerful ways to beat breast cancer, which is why the activities we organised today focused on overall health.
“At Commercial Bank, our people are our greatest asset, and we are committed to investing in their wellbeing through initiatives like Breast Cancer Awareness Month and through employee services like our new on-site gym CB House of Fitness. We like to involve employees’ friends and families and members of the public in these initiatives as much as we can.”
Commercial Bank’s aim is to be the best bank in Qatar. The Bank’s ethos – that ‘everything is possible’ – governs its approach to business. It aims to offer the very best service to customers, using technology to develop products that make their lives easier. It also takes its corporate social responsibility seriously. The Bank’s corporate social responsibility strategy has been designed to support the human development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, which is improving the population’s health, education and workplace skills.
Dr. Hadi Abu Rasheed, Head of Professional Development and Scientific Research Department at QCS, said: “This event comes within our Life is Pink campaign, which Qatar Cancer Society launched during the month of October to raise awareness about breast cancer, emphasize the importance of periodic examination for early detection, and promote a healthylife style to prevent it.”
He added: “Life is Pink target all categories of Qatari society through cooperation with various state institutions to raise awareness of this disease and ways to prevent it. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Commercial Bank for its support of QCS’s campaigns and initiatives, and invite all community members to participate in the campaign, which continues throughout the month.”
